Quick Song is Blackcap at its simplest: no screens to learn, just one question at a time. Start with whatever you've got, and a band plays it back as a real song.

  1. More → Quick Song (or Songs → New Song → Quick Song).
  2. What have you got? Got a tune in your head right now? Hum It Now records it in one tap. Or start from some words, a riff you play, some chords, a beat — or Surprise Me.
  3. The row at the top is your song so far: each piece is ticked as you add it.
  4. Starting with a beat? Pick one of the ready-made beats, or Beatbox a beat, then tap squares to make it yours (or switch to Play Live and play the pads). The band plays along with it — your beat is the drums.
  5. How should it feel? Tap a style to hear a band play it, and pick the one that fits.
  6. Pick the chords: about fifteen, grouped by mood (Bright and happy, Heartfelt, Dreamy and smooth — or Dark, Sad, Mysterious in a minor key). Tap to hear one.
  7. Or Pick My Own Chords: tap a bar, then the chord you want in it — the next bar is ready for the next one. More Bars and Fewer Bars set how long it goes round (two to eight bars).
  8. Add words if you like, or skip.
  9. Here's your song: Slower or Faster, Calmer or Bigger — one tap each. Other Chords and Other Feel go back a step.
  10. Try other keys: tap a key a few steps up or down to hear the whole song there — handy for finding where it's comfortable to sing.
  11. Tap a part (Verse, Chorus…) to hear the song from there. Longer adds an intro, a bridge and an outro; Shorter takes them out again — your verse and chorus stay just as they are.
  12. Sing Over It records you singing along with the band from the top (headphones help). Stop, and you'll hear it back with the band.
  13. I Like It → give it a name → Keep Working on It opens your song (in Beginner its home; otherwise its overview in the full studio), where everything can be changed.
  14. Kept, the band's drums and bass become your own: the beat is a ready-made beat like the band's (with a bigger version in the choruses), and the bass line is written from your chords — so the Beat and Bass pages have every hit and note to change. The band plays the rest: keys, guitar, pads.
