Blackcap Privacy Policy
Effective November 1, 2026 · Applies to Blackcap for iPhone and iPad
The Blackcap app does not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app. What you make stays on your device, and in your own iCloud if you turn that on.
This website, blackcapmusic.app, counts visits with Google Analytics so we can see which pages help people. What that means
What Blackcap collects
Nothing. The developer of Blackcap receives no information about you or how you use the app. Blackcap has no servers of its own and sends nothing to anyone.
Your songs and recordings
Your songs, recordings and settings are stored on your device. If iCloud is on in Blackcap's settings, they're also kept in your own iCloud Drive, in a folder called Blackcap, so they appear on your other devices. That storage is run by Apple under your Apple Account; the developer can't see or reach it. When you export or share a song, it goes only where you choose to send it.
Microphone
Blackcap uses the microphone only when you record, tune, or ask it to listen (for example, humming an idea, beatboxing a beat, or playing it a song for Make a Song Like). Audio is processed on your device and kept only when you choose to keep a recording. It is never sent anywhere.
Speech recognition
If you use features that turn singing or speech into lyrics, Blackcap uses Apple's speech recognition in on-device mode only. The audio never leaves your device, and nothing is sent to Apple or anyone else. If on-device recognition isn't available, the feature doesn't run rather than falling back to a server.
Photos
Blackcap never reads your photo library. A picture you choose for a song video or cover art comes through Apple's own photo picker, and only that picture. When you choose Save Video on a video you export, Blackcap adds it to your library, and that's all.
Bluetooth
Blackcap uses Bluetooth only to connect MIDI keyboards and controllers you choose to pair in Settings → MIDI. It looks for nothing else.
Local network and connected devices
If you switch on sending tempo to other devices over Wi-Fi, Blackcap sends timing information (tempo, start and stop) to music devices and apps on your own network that you connect. If you choose to play another device from Blackcap, it sends that part's notes to the device or app you pick. Nothing else is sent. MIDI keyboards, controllers and audio interfaces you connect by USB or Bluetooth talk to Blackcap directly on your device.
Plug-ins from other developers
If you load an Audio Unit plug-in made by another developer, it runs inside Blackcap under its own developer's privacy policy. Blackcap shares nothing with it except the audio and MIDI it needs to work.
Crash reports
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may pass on anonymous crash reports. They contain no personal information, and you can turn this off at any time in your device's Privacy settings.
This website
blackcapmusic.app uses Google Analytics to count visits: which pages are read, roughly where visitors are (country and city, worked out from the internet address, which Google doesn't store), the kind of device and browser, and how people arrived. It sets small first-party cookies (named _ga) to tell one visit from another. We use this only to improve the site. There are no ads on the site, and nothing is used for advertising.
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, nothing is stored until you agree. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings (here and at the foot of every page), or block it with your browser's settings or a content blocker. Google handles this data under its own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
None of this involves the app. Using Blackcap sends nothing to us or to Google.
Children
The Blackcap app collects no information from anyone, including children under 13. There is no chat, no feed, no account and nothing shared with anyone. This website is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Any change that would collect data would be described plainly before it applies.
